Dear Family & Friends,
So, first, to answer your questions---white washed is when two missionaries are taken out of an area and then two completely new missionaries come in. That is what happened with Elder Pearson and me---we took over the area of two missionaries (that is our second area). Secondly, the tortillas were really sweet--I loved those tons! I have had 2 so far--with eggs and cheese inside. Other than that I am back to eating rice and stew with Elder Pearson, but we have decided to eat something new--cereal (corn flakes) with special milk on them--sweetened and condensed!
Well, we had our six baptisms and it was one of the best baptisms I have had my whole mission. Every one came early--well kind of--we told them to be there at 3:00 and the baptism would start at 4:00 (but really we planned that it would start at 5:00--so everyone was there before 4:30) so that was really nice! I was asked to do the baptisms and it was really sweet--so I did all of them. The next day we went to Church hoping that they would all come to the confirmation and guess what--they were all there! It was the best thing that has every happened. Also, Grace’s Father came to Church—so that was really great! Grace and her brother and sister were part of the baptisms. We have to work with the Father tons--but we can do it.
Next, we continue on to who came to church---once again we had a great turn out! We had 9 come to church--everyone that is going to be baptized this week and everyone for next 2 weeks. We were very happy about that. We even had 2 new people come to church. They are both going to be really cool--we will be happy to baptize the lady and then her whole family will be in the church. The Bishop combined the Priesthood and the Relief Society and he told them he was sending a paper around and he wanted everyone to put 2 or 3 names on it that the missionaries can teach. We got like 12 names and he said he will be doing this for the next couple of weeks! We were really happy about the way he did it--he did not ask if anyone had referrals--he said write the referrals down---No option! The Bishop here is really correct! He is awesome!
We also started to teach a lady and then she went to get her huge book with a bunch of religious beliefs--we were very nice but she started getting very angry. She said that we were agents of the devil and she started to yell at us. That was not the scary part---she had a knife in her hand, but don’t worry it was because she was fixing dinner! Well, we have never met anyone like her before. I don’t know if I told you about the pastor that pulled up next to us and yelled, “Mormons. Come, come.” We thought this guy was going to be really rude but then he said that Mormons are not something bad. Then he told us, “listen, listen”. He pressed play on his tape player and out came the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! That was pretty awesome.
By the way--we can receive chocolate--like M&M’s and those chocolate Dove candies. Just put it in a plastic bag.
Dad’s gall bladder surgery sounded pretty interesting--only 4 holes that is pretty weird. Good thing it was nothing else. Sounds like that has kept you busy, Dad! And Mom with all her driving around--that’s cool that you were able to go with her all across Utah!
I have not been writing any letters still, but let everyone know that I really do care. We have just been working a little over time--like last night. I was up late and then I fell asleep in my trousers! We have even been cutting p-day short so we can go see some really cool people. It’s not easy, but it’s really cool though.
Well, love you all tons and tons! I am going to go so we can teach a guy at Oyarifa---Oh ya it’s far---anyway, that’s just a joke we have!!! Oh ya, we also go to Danfar---that’s even further away. Have a great week! Love you all--miss you--only a month now till we talk again on the phone! Four weeks—dang, it’s not far at all.
Please tell everyone I have not forgotten about them, I am just busy--sorry.
Love, Elder Jeremy Reid
