Dear Family & Friends,
Well, to first answer your questions: My new companion, Elder Amoah, does like American food. He knows a lot about America. Ha Ha! He even wants to come work in the shop for you Dad. He has like 8 months till he goes home or so. He is 25 years old and looks about that age. So the pancakes were great as always. They still just taste like pancakes though and I really don't like pancakes. The training was this: we invite, they commit, we follow up and teaching people not just lessons. It was stuff that we all knew before, but it was taught in a different way. I really liked it but I don't know if I will be here long enough to see the whole thing really get going. We have been applying it all but our numbers have gradually gone down. It was sad--this week we only had 1 person at Church and she was also getting baptized that day. So that has been a real bummer.
This week’s baptism went well. We had 4 on Saturday then a 5th on Sunday. On Saturday it rained so not one person came to see the baptism. Brother Felix picked up 3 of the candidates. That was way cool. I was so happy--the last one walked from his house to the Church in the rain! He is a really cool guy. Salomey did not show up because she had a school thing. So we planned that she and Samuel would be baptized on Sunday after Church. So then Samuel did not show up to Church so we were still going to baptize Salomey because I had already told her about it Saturday. After church they did not have it planned out so I was trying to make this baptism happen because she was all ready. The other ward was going on so I talked to the Sunday School President so that they could move. No one thought it could be done but it was finally done. While we were preparing the bishop of the other ward called me in and there were a few problems so it did not turn out so well. Anyway, we had the baptism and I performed the baptism. We were also on splits so that means that my companion was not there, I was with Elder Neilson who is just fresh. So it was not a fun Sunday. So Samuel did not get baptized and sadly I don't know what happened.
Sounds like you all had a good time going to Elder Pearson's homecoming. Kind of weird that it was that long till he had it, but I guess it’s not really that long; it just seems like it to me. I'm pretty happy--tomorrow is my 22 month mark. I won’t be happy to leave Ghana but I will be happy to come home to see everyone again. I guess that is the way it works. I'm really glad that I get to be here 1 week more just to see it as a tourist sees all of this, no longer dealing with all the problems in missionary work.
Oh yes, I will be going back to Snow College. I loved that place when I was there and I still think that I will love it when I get back. This time I will be doing more studying the books though and not so much the fun scene--just small this time.
I guess lots of people really don't know where Ghana is and sometimes I wish it was like South Africa where I would have all of the American stuff, but this is so much more than that! I am learning lots of weird stuff here that if I was in a country like America I would never learn. I don't really know when I am going to use some of the things that I have learned--like peeling cassava--we don't even have it in America but still it’s cool to learn so much!
Well, Wayne might get interested now in the Church because he has been more curious—sometimes that drives people to finding out more. Oh that reminds me--Brother Felix went though the Temple this week. I was so happy for him! It was the greatest thing that I have heard. I hope that soon some of the people that my companions and I have baptized will go through the temple. I will be so happy for that. I have seen many changes here in people as they have learned the Gospel. We are teaching a guy right now who is not a Christian and he is really cool. He can see the change that is coming in his life because of the things that we are teaching him. I just wish that he would come to Church. I think Sunday is going to be the explosion back into the normal things!
Love you all so much can’t wait to be back to see you all.
Love, Elder Jeremy Reid
Well, I have about 3 minutes left so I thought I would tell you about the baptism that I kind of left out. It was so cool to see Brother Mark and his 2 kids be baptized with him. That is the coolest part of the things we do out here. I hope that his wife also joins him. They are a really cool family and also he has one other daughter that we will start teaching we hope this week. That will be the coolest. I will keep you updated
