Dear Family & Friends,
Kind of funny, when I was reading through Dads email about the weather in Utah, I thought of some things. There is no cold weather here. There is no change ever--it stays the same every day. This year we did not even have that time when it gets really cold (at least cold for here)! The next thing was when you said you don’t like to be idle. That’s kind of funny because here there are lots of shops that people just sit at day in and day out--just sitting! I don’t think you would like to work here Dad!
The church we attend is just on the opposite road of our area. It’s in the middle of my area and the sister’s area, so we share it. It’s right in Nungua, the old part of Nungua. The place is pretty cool.
I got the package from the Hales and I have been working our every day this week. Making sure to get really strong before I come back home! I did something funny with my letters this last Zone Conference. I took the letters from them and then some how they got left in the van. I was worried for 3 days that they were gone. I was very upset about losing them! Then the office managers called and told me that they were in the van--I was very much happy! So, tomorrow they will be coming out to bring them. They are coming out because I am too fat for my bike! It has broken so many times. The last time I carried it on my head for 1 mile back home to our apartment. I’m so big that the tire just broke off!!! So, that’s really why they are coming out here with my letters!
Now for the great news: We had 8 investigators at church this week! I was very happy. It hasn’t been easy but I think it really paid off---the hard work we have been doing. But, truly it was the spirit that brought these people to church! The other night when we went contacting we just decided to pass by one house. The contacts weren’t very good, well at least we thought they weren’t. Some kids talked to us and they wanted some pamphlets so we gave them some. My companion told one girl (her name was Porsha and she is about 10 years old) to give it to her mother. We left that place because the people just keep telling us minty borfo a dentiny how on casa Twi. That means we don’t hear English--why don’t either of you speak Twi! Two days later I get a call from a lady, she says “How are you? I have your pamphlet here. I hope you guys are having a good mission!” So I ask her where she is calling from and she says from Nungua. I said, “That’s great! We would love to come see you. How about today?” She agreed and we told her we would meet at 4:00. Around 5:00, I called the lady to tell her sorry we are running a little late, but we are coming. She tells me she is late too, but that she is coming. I think she meant that she was just coming home from work. I called her back once again because we don’t know where she lives and her daughter answered and said, “Elder Reid, we are coming to the chapel. So my companion and I went to the chapel and waited for a very long time. Finally we see them coming in and we greet them and then I see the girl--the same girl that we had talked to a couple of days ago and had told her to give the pamphlet to her mom! Anyway, the whole thing was amazing! She brought her whole family to the chapel with her and then they all came to church on Sunday! It really was sweet!
Today we had the opportunity to go to the chapel and watch “The Doctrine & Covenants” movie. That was pretty sweet. The only problem was that the church light credits finished (that means the power went off) so we could not watch much of it.
This week was a very good week for everything! We just continue trying to bring more people to church. Interviews were great! We learned a lot about how to plan efficiently and also about our numbers, so it was pretty sweet. Well, I think I will close here today. I love you all tons and miss you all. Hope you have a good week.
Love, Elder Jeremy Reid
