My companions name is Elder Simeon and he is from Nigeria. I did get the small envelope package. It was nice, thank you once again! It’s the dry season now, so no rain. It’s getting very hot so I sweat lots, but not as much as I use to. When I first got here I was dying around this time. I got heat rash really bad--the collar of the shirt was killing me! This year I got a little heat rash but not as bad--so I hope it goes away very soon this time. I have lots of scars from the rash, but it’s not too bad.
I started my second work out today, that was pretty fun. I don’t really know what to do so I’m just winging it because Elder Gale took all the exercise stuff with him. But no worries. I washed tons of clothes this week so my hands are a little sore!
So this week was a pretty crazy one. On Tuesday I got a call during PEC. It was a man named Amos. This guy contacted us in May and was preparing to be baptized when his mother sent him to Tema because she is a Jehovah’s Witness. Then he came back and we prepared him again and his mother said no way! This time he called and said he was ready and on Saturday we baptized him with Brother Asante! That was sweet! We had 2 baptisms so that means we made our goal of 3 and actually exceeded it by one----so we got 4 baptisms these 6 weeks! We were trying to get one more but it did not happen. We don’t know how much more there will be but we are already preparing people for next transfer. This area has picked up major time! It’s been going really good this week. It’s still hard to get people to church but that’s okay. We will keep going and doing the things we are doing and I think everything’s about ready to pull out so that we can really get it going here.
Also, on Sunday one of my investigators from my first area, Kasoa, showed up at church. His name is Richmond. When he came into church I thought I knew him, but I thought maybe he was just a member I had met. Come to find out I had been teaching this guy with another kid that was baptized back in Kasoa! This boy knew more than the kid we baptized but the people he was living with told him that he could not come to the church anymore. So when he got to Nungua (where I am) he told his mom that he knew a white man that went to the LDS Church so he wanted to go see if I was there. When he saw me he remembered my name and everything, it was very crazy! We met with him yesterday and taught him just small. He remembers Joseph Smith and that he is a Prophet--so he is still doing great. Then there is another guy that moved here from Nigeria, he is really cool, too. So, Amos is probably one of the greatest miracles I have seen since I have been on my mission. Those are some of the things that happened this week.
We were going to go watch The Restoration but it was too late after we washed clothes and stuff--so maybe next week. I will try to wash during the week so we can go and watch it. I have not seen it for so long. I have not even seen TV for a very long time!
That’s very funny about Rosy or Jeremy Rosenvall. Jeremy’s great--ha ha. That would be cool to go to BYU. After speaking a different language, it might be kind of difficult! I will be saying “minty brofo”--that means “I don’t speak English”. It’s one of the ladies favorite things to say every time they see us: “Oh obruni, minty brofo”! That means: “Oh white man, I don’t speak English”! Anyway you can see if you know that one!!! Well, I have now found a new favorite food---black eyed peas, which are beans and bread. You cook the black eyed peas in some soup mixture and it’s really nice! That’s what I’m going to go make after we go to the market. I’m going to go sell a pig at market!!! ha ha ha ha!!!!!! That’s what I always think about when people say they are going to market!!!
One last thing that happened--we went to interviews--that was pretty cool. President is doing just great! The Christmas Conference is coming up in 17 days---man that will be one of the sweetest times. In a year, when I am sitting talking to you, I will be telling you stuff that just seemed like some days ago that was really years ago, because that’s the way things are going.
The sisters are making the greatest come back that I have ever seen. They went from having 0 to have 4 at sacrament then from 0 baptisms to 4 baptisms. That is going to be the biggest jump that I have ever seen on my whole mission. So they will be exceeding there goal if everything goes the way it is suppose to. We will be getting the district goal and that is really good, too! I have many pictures of them, so you will get to see them.
Well, I love you tons! I really do! Right now at just a year ago I left. Not too far away now and we will be talking on the phone for Christmas.
Love, Elder Jeremy Reid
